Getting to Ghachowk

Ghachowk is just 30 minutes from Lakeside Pokhara, but feels like a different world. Here's how to reach our peaceful mountain location.

Location Overview

Our yoga center is located in Ghachowk village, positioned on the slopes above Pokhara city. While only about 8 kilometers from Lakeside, the winding mountain road makes the journey approximately 20-30 minutes by vehicle.

The elevation gain from Lakeside (800m) to Ghachowk (approximately 1,100m) means cooler temperatures and clearer mountain views. As you ascend, you leave the tourist bustle behind and enter peaceful village life.

We provide complimentary pickup from Pokhara airport and bus station for all retreat and YTT participants.

Transport Options

Complimentary Pickup (Retreat/YTT)

If you've booked a retreat or teacher training, we provide free pickup from Pokhara airport or tourist bus station. Just send us your arrival details.

Taxi from Lakeside

Taxis from Lakeside to Ghachowk cost NPR 800-1,200 (~$6-9). Agree on the price before departing. Journey takes 20-30 minutes depending on traffic.

Scooter/Motorcycle

If you've rented a scooter (common in Pokhara), Ghachowk is an easy ride. The road is paved all the way, with some steep sections. Helmets required.

Local Bus

Local buses run from Prithvi Chowk toward Sarangkot area. Ask for Ghachowk stop. NPR 30-50. Buses are infrequent; not recommended for first visits.

Driving Directions from Lakeside

Start at Lakeside

From the main Lakeside strip (Baidam), head north toward Prithvi Chowk / Mahendrapul area.

Prithvi Chowk Junction

At the major junction, take the road heading northwest toward Sarangkot/Naudanda.

Begin Climbing

The road winds uphill through Khapaudi. Follow signs for Sarangkot initially.

Ghachowk Turn

Before reaching Sarangkot viewpoint, turn off for Ghachowk (ask locals if unsure). The yoga center is well-known locally.

Final Approach

Continue through Ghachowk village. We're located at the end of the main road with clear mountain views.

From Pokhara Airport

Pokhara Airport is approximately 25 minutes from Ghachowk by taxi. For retreat and YTT participants, we provide complimentary pickup - just share your flight details in advance.

If arranging your own transport, airport taxis are metered or negotiable. Expect NPR 1,500-2,000 to Ghachowk. Confirm the driver knows Ghachowk (not just Sarangkot) before departing.

From Pokhara Tourist Bus Station

Tourist buses from Kathmandu arrive at the station in Prithvi Narayan Campus area. From there, Ghachowk is about 20-25 minutes by taxi (NPR 1,000-1,500).

For retreat/YTT participants, we provide pickup. Contact us with your arrival time and bus company for coordination.

Seasonal Travel Notes

The road to Ghachowk is paved and accessible year-round, but seasonal conditions affect the journey. During monsoon (June-September), expect wet roads and reduced visibility. Morning travel is recommended when skies are clearer.

Winter months (December-February) bring cool mornings and occasional fog. The road remains open but allow extra time for slower travel due to fog patches in low areas before the climb.

Spring (March-May) and autumn (October-November) offer ideal travel conditions with clear skies, good visibility, and comfortable temperatures for the journey.

Technically yes (8km), but it's a steep uphill climb taking 2-3 hours. Not recommended with luggage or in hot weather. Some fit trekkers do it for exercise, but most take transport.
Yes, the road is safe but unlit. Night travel requires careful driving. First-time visitors should arrive before dark. For retreat/YTT students, we can arrange night pickup if your flight arrives late.
