Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

Mardi Himal is the quieter, higher sister to Poon Hill. It stays away from the busy Annapurna trails, climbing from forest onto an open ridge directly below Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Mardi Himal.

About the Mardi Himal Yoga Trek

Mardi Himal is the quieter, higher sister to Poon Hill. It stays away from the busy Annapurna trails, climbing from forest onto an open ridge directly below Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) and Mardi Himal.

The route reaches the Upper Viewpoint at around 4,200 m, with the itinerary paced for gradual acclimatisation as you gain height. Daily yoga, pranayama and meditation are woven through the walking, with classical morning sessions before each day on the trail.

It is graded moderate but a step up from Poon Hill. It reaches a higher altitude, has some narrower ridge sections, and the upper camps are cold. You do not need technical skills, but you should be comfortable walking 3 to 5 hours a day on uneven trails.

This is one of our two yoga treks from Pokhara. If you are weighing it against the Poon Hill Yoga Trek, see the side-by-side comparison on the yoga trek overview. To prepare your body first, try our yoga for trekkers classes.

Really nice spot to stay some days in Pokhara in between trekkings. Lovely yoga classes from Deepika 2 times a day. Oasis of peace with little garden in the center of Pokhara near the lakeside.

Mardi Himal Yoga Trek FAQs

This trek is graded moderate and is a step up from Poon Hill. You will walk around 3 to 5 hours a day on uneven trails, with some narrower ridge sections higher up. No technical skills are needed, but you should be comfortable with consecutive days of walking. Check with your doctor first if you have a condition affecting walking or altitude.
Yoga experience is not required, as sessions are adapted to the group. Some prior walking or hiking experience is helpful here because of the altitude and the length, though it is not essential.
The Upper Viewpoint sits at around 4,200 m. Above 4,000 m, some people feel the effects of altitude. The itinerary is paced to ascend gradually, and we watch for signs of discomfort and adjust as needed, but acclimatisation depends on the individual.
Mardi Himal is quieter, longer (7 days versus 6), and higher (around 4,200 m versus 3,210 m). Poon Hill is the gentler option and a good first Himalayan trek. Mardi suits you if you want a quieter trail and do not mind a bit more altitude and cold.
A hotel in Pokhara on the first and last nights, and teahouse stays throughout the trek on a sharing basis. Teahouses on the Mardi route are simpler and fewer than on busier trails, and the upper camps are cold at night, so warm layers matter.
