7 Days / 6 Nights of Sustained Silent Practice

Noble Silence Yoga & Meditation Retreat

Noble silence used as the container for deep meditation. Vipassana, Anapanasati and Metta Bhavana, supported by daily gentle hatha yoga, walking meditation and personal interviews with the meditation teacher.

Silence as the Setting for Practice

This retreat uses noble silence as the setting for sustained meditation practice. Noble silence means stepping back from speech, eye contact, reading and digital devices, so the mind has the space to settle on its own, emotions have room to process, and genuine insight can arise.

Over seven days you follow a structured rhythm of sitting meditation, walking meditation, gentle hatha yoga, pranayama and restorative practices. Silence is entered gradually on day one and held through day six, with mindful speech returning on the final day. As the retreat progresses and the silence deepens, most participants notice a real shift in the quality of their awareness: a quieting of mental noise and a growing sense of ease and presence.

Three core meditation techniques are taught and developed across the week. Vipassana for insight into impermanence, non-self and suffering; Anapanasati for concentration built on the natural rhythm of the breath; and Metta Bhavana for the systematic cultivation of loving-kindness. Personal interviews with the meditation teacher run throughout, so each participant is supported in their own process.

The programme is held in the peaceful setting of our ashram in Ghachowk village at 1,320 m, in the lap of the holy mountain Machhapuchhre and surrounded by the natural beauty of Pokhara. Enrolment is limited so the group stays small and the individual support stays real. Some prior meditation experience is recommended: this is an intensive practice retreat, and participants should be in good general health and emotionally stable.

What You Will Learn and Experience

Vipassana (Insight Meditation)

The foundational technique of observing the arising and passing of all physical and mental phenomena with clear, non-reactive awareness, developing direct insight into impermanence, non-self and suffering.

Anapanasati (Mindfulness of Breathing)

Develop concentration and present-moment awareness using the natural rhythm of the breath as the primary object of attention.

Metta Bhavana (Loving-Kindness)

Systematically cultivate unconditional love and compassion toward yourself and all beings, softening the heart and dissolving barriers.

Walking Meditation

Bring the quality of meditative awareness into slow, mindful movement, practised in the ashram grounds and the natural surroundings.

Hatha Yoga for Meditators

Daily gentle yoga sessions designed to release physical tension, open the body and support long hours of sitting practice rather than to be a workout.

Personal Teacher Interviews

Personal interviews with the meditation teacher throughout the retreat, the one exception to noble silence, there to support your individual practice.

Yoga Nidra & Body Scan

Yogic sleep, a guided state of conscious deep rest that supports integration, alongside body scan practice that builds the refined sensitivity Vipassana rests on.

Practice You Can Take Home

Course materials and a home practice guide, so you leave with an established meditation practice and clear guidance for continuing it at home.

Retreat FAQs

Some prior meditation experience is recommended. This is an intensive silent retreat, not an introduction to meditation, and a full week of silence is demanding if you have never sat with your own mind for long stretches. You do not need to be advanced, but you should have at least some regular practice behind you. If you are unsure whether you are ready, tell us about your experience when you enquire and we will be honest with you.
Noble silence means stepping back from verbal communication, eye contact, reading and digital devices for the length of the retreat. Silence is entered gradually on day one and held through day six, with speech returning on the final day. The one exception is your personal interviews with the meditation teacher, which are there to support your practice.
Not entirely, and we would rather say so. Because it is intensive and involves sustained silence, you should be in good general health and emotionally stable before joining. A silent retreat can bring difficult emotions to the surface, so it is not the right setting if you are in the middle of a mental health crisis. If you have any concerns, talk to us first.
Days follow a steady rhythm of sitting meditation, gentle hatha yoga, walking meditation and rest, with three meals eaten in silence. The yoga is gentle and designed to support long hours of sitting rather than to be a workout. The shape of the day stays consistent, and the practice deepens as the silence settles.
The price covers 6 nights accommodation on the ashram in a shared or private room, three organic vegetarian meals a day, all meditation and yoga sessions, a personal interview with the teacher, course materials and a home practice guide, and pickup and drop-off in Pokhara. It does not cover international flights or your Nepal visa.
All meals are organic, freshly prepared and vegetarian, following sattvic (yogic) dietary principles, and mostly sourced from our own organic farm. Breakfast includes oats, fruits and herbal teas. Lunch is the main meal, dal bhat with seasonal vegetables. Dinner is lighter, with soups, bread or rice with vegetables. Vegan, gluten-free and allergy requirements are accommodated with advance notice.
Bring modest yoga clothes, a warm layer because mornings are cool, a refillable water bottle and a journal. Mat, blanket and bolster are provided. September to November and February to May are the clearest months. Monsoon, June to August, is quieter and often better priced. We run the retreat year-round.
Booking is done directly with us over WhatsApp or the enquiry form. We confirm your dates and a clear price, with a 20% deposit to hold your place and the remaining 80% due on arrival before the programme begins. Cancellation and refund terms are set out in our booking and refund policy, so please read it before you pay, or ask us and we will explain it.
